Exploring alternate realities through fiction and journalism

Journalism
My award-winning journalism has appeared in TIME, Discover, Smithsonian, Audubon, Reuters, and many other national magazines, websites and newspapers. While this work has spanned many styles and subjects, it has often focused on people challenging the dominant paradigm. For example, my article “Taming the Flames,” for Alta Journal, describes how indigenous Californians set fire to the forest on land they have regained.
Fiction
My fiction also tells of people living in worlds different from our own. In my novel “Fallen Lake,” two couples fall in love and raise their four children together. In the book I’m writing now, a time traveler contrasts her predictable world of the future to the spontaneous one of our present. A physicist must help her decide which direction to steer the universe.
